Our Interests

stem cell graphical abstract.jpg

Maintenance of organismal homeostasis necessitates a stringent control over the network of cellular and molecular processes. The Inamdar Laboratory is interested in unravelling the fundamental principles of stem cell biology with an overarching aim of delineating developmental and disease mechanisms. We utilize diverse model systems such as Drosophila, mouse, cell lines and human pluripotent stem cells. Our multi-pronged approaches can be viewed as the following broad themes:

Stem cells and

Hematopoiesis

We study the evolutionarily conserved molecular mechanisms that regulate embryonic and adult hematopoiesis using Drosophila, mouse and human embryonic stem cell models. Our focus is to elucidate how endosomal and mitochondrial dynamics govern hematopoietic stem cell homeostasis.

Cardiovascular

Development

Our interest is to understand how cytoskeletal organization regulates epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, angiogenesis and vasculature using mouse and human embryonic stem cell models. We aim to uncover novel mechanisms of cytoskeleton-signaling pathway crosstalk that exert spatio-temporal control in vascular development and disease.

Organellar

Dynamics

Our lab studies how organelles such as endosomes, mitochondria and lipid-droplets control signaling pathways and metabolism to dictate stem cell fate and lineage choice. We aim to understand how genetic and pharmacological modulation of organelle activity can help bias differentiation trajectories to desired cell lineage.

Aging and

Disease

We apply fundamental principles derived from basic biology to model and modulate hematopoietic and inflammatory diseases. Using mouse models of blood disorders and Alzheimer’s disease, we aim to unravel role of novel molecular players that influence inflammation and immune homeostasis.
